The Mulberry Market is a community based, producer focused farmers market created and maintained by Community Health Works. In 2009, Community Health Works saw an opportunity to increase access to healthy food items while providing a sustainable, direct-to-consumer sales outlet for local farmers and ranchers. Community Health Works, the City of Macon, and other partners came together to create the Mulberry Market. As Community Health Works focuses on community health improvement, the Mulberry Market has had a unique focus on health improvement and local agriculture since its inception.
Seeing the need to increase access to healthy food to low-income Central Georgians, Community Health Works, with the help of Wholesome Wave Georgia, implemented a program which doubles the buying power of the Mulberry Market’s lowest income customers. Today, at its current location within Tattnall Square Park, the Mulberry Market attracts a wide cross section of Central Georgians of all incomes, races, professions, and ages, who love local fresh produce, tasty food, and handmade craft items.
